Reality star and former footballer Mark Wright discovers his family’s history on Who Do You Think You Are? on 11 September.

Mark Wright has been a popular face on British television for years as a footballer turned reality star, as well as being a familiar voice on Heart Radio.

Here's five things you might not know about the celebrity...

1. Lifelong football fan

According to Mark Wright's mother, his first word was ‘ball’. He spent hours playing football in the garden with his dad, his brother and his friends. He jokingly credits himself and these garden games for his brother Josh's success as a professional footballer. Mark himself is a former semi-professional footballer who's played for Southend United.

2. The Only Way Is Essex

Mark Wright has been in a grand total of 44 episodes of The Only Way Is Essex. He was a regular in the first three seasons and has since appeared in several specials. The highly successful reality show has so far run to a huge 24 seasons.

3. A family business

Mark is not the only member of the Wright family to appear on The Only Way Is Essex: his sister, Jessica, also starred in the show, alongside their parents, Carol and Mark Sr., and their cousin, Elliott. Mark’s younger sister Jessica greatly surpasses him for most episodes appeared in at a whopping 189!

4. He's a celebrity, get him out of here!

Mark was in the 2011 season of I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! and came a very close second to Dougie Poynter in the jungle survival show. In a highly contrasting television role he presented two years of the CBBC show The Dengineers.

5. Long distance relationship

Mark and Michelle Keegan (known for her role in Coronation Street and her own episode of last year's Who Do You Think You Are?) have been married since 2015, and the pair spent two years apart when Mark was working on Extra in Los Angeles. He has since moved back to his home of Essex to be with her - whilst Michelle was there it seemed the only way for Mark was, in fact, Essex!
