Prominent bankers

This guide was last updated in 2009

If you are lucky enough to discover an ancestor who was elevated in the bank’s hierarchy, there may be extra resources worth examining.

Board minutes will record the detailed discussions and workings within the bank, and may just mention your ancestor by name. Lists of governors and boards of directors should help confirm for how long your ancestor served in this capacity, and online newspaper collections and obituaries may provide further details.

Such elevated ancestors are likely to have embellished obituaries in staff magazines – perhaps with photographs – as well as in the local and national press.
