Irish London
www.oldbaileyonline.org

By 1851 the Irish-born population of London was numbered at 109,000. The Proceedings of the Old Bailey was published from 1674 until 1913, and this website contains the searchable digitised texts of 197,745 trials.

To find out more about the Irish community, as represented in the Proceedings, click ‘Historical background’ on the left-hand menu, then ‘Community histories’. The subsequent essay explores Irish migration patterns, employment and politics, before suggesting ‘Search strategies’ for references to the Irish population in the Proceedings.
