Naming patterns

Look for clues in naming patterns. Sephardic Jews, unlike Ashkenazic Jews, named their children after relatives even if those relatives were still alive. The usual precedence was to name the first son after the paternal grandfather, second son after maternal grandfather, first daughter after paternal grandmother, and second daughter after maternal grandmother.
